1 dead in Marcos Highway accident

TUBA, Benguet  – One died  when a delivery van rammed into a tree along the tricky Marcos Highway here  Sunday afternoon.

Police said the driver of the lowland-bound Isuzu container van with plate number XMP 359 loaded with appliance named after Jollimagic Inc. of Dagupan City, in Pangasinan lost control, swerved to the right and rammed into a tree.

Passenger Alfred Escano, 28, from Urdaneta, also in Pangasinan, was immediately killed upon impact while Edwin Javier, 40, also from Urdaneta was rushed to  a hospital for various injuriers.

The driver—Mark Javier, 33,-- from San Carlos City, also in Pangasinan was unhurt.

Probers said Javier could not engage his brakes, prompting him to go to the road’s shoulder and ram the vehicle into a tree.

Last week,  another lowland bound truck fell into a 20-foot ravine in Kennon Road.  All three passengers survived and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. - Artemio A. Dumlao
