Tampakan project offers job opportunities for tribal folk

The Philippine Star

TAMPAKAN, South Cotabato.. – Blaan tribal folk face a brighter future with the opening of more employment opportunities with the skills and leadership capabilities they have developed through the training programs offered by Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Blaan chieftain Bai Dalena Samling said tribal communities previously had limited job opportunities due to their lack of employable skills and generally little education.

“But things gradually improved since SMI and DepEd offered skills training and leadership development programs in Tampakan,” Samling said.

SMI is the government contractor for the $5.9-billion Tampakan gold-copper project, the single biggest foreign direct investment in the country.
