5,000 cops to help secure polls in Eastern Visayas
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed 5,000 police officers in Eastern Visayas to help secure tomorrow’s elections.
Chief Superintendent Elmer Soria, head of the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8), said the deployment is part of the PNP’s intensified security measures before, during and after elections.
Soria said the deployment included members of the PNP Reactionary Standby Support Force (PNP-RSSF) from the PRO8 headquarters and the Public Safety Companies (PSC) of the provincial and city police offices.
The policemen were deployed to six provinces in the region, particularly in Samar and Northern Samar where election-related violence is expected.
Meanwhile, the 8th Infantry Division based in Catbalogan City also deployed its troops to help the PNP secure the elections and help in the conduct of security patrols, checkpoints and anti-crime operations against criminals and insurgents.
