5 nabbed for illegal sale of modems

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Five people were arrested by police officers and members of Globe Telecoms’ security team for illegal sale of WIMAX modems in Laguna and Cavite, recently.

According to reports, the suspects would pull out modems from legitimate subscribers on the pretext of giving them an upgrade. The modems would then be reconfigured and sold to other subscribers.

The suspects were identified as Jose Narcida, of Las Piñas City; Reynald Denapo, Christopher Viado, Mark Villanueva and Francisco Espino, all of Cavite.

“We appeal to our subscribers to report to us any dubious offers they may receive from unscrupulous individuals engaged in illegal sale of our products and services. Rest assured that we will continue to work closely with police authorities in resolving these problems,” said Froilan Castelo, head of Globe Telecoms’ corporate and legal services group.
