Police checkpoints beefed up in Antipolo
MANILA, Philippines - Police intensified checkpoint operations in Antipolo City following the shooting and serious wounding Wednesday of a supporter of City Mayor Nilo Leyble.
Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, ordered the Antipolo police to search for firearms in the convoys of politicians staging campaign sorties in the city to prevent another shooting incident as the election period heats up.
“I have ordered the city police to arrest anybody carrying loose firearms. There should be no sacred cows in our checkpoint operations,†said Anduyan, as he vowed to arrest the gunman of Leyble’s supporter Dick Tadeo.
Tadeo was playing Leyble’s campaign jingle in front of his house in Barangay Cupang when the gunman approached and shot him three times. Police said they have three witnesses who saw the gunman’s face but could not identify him.
