2 NPA rebels surrender in Sorsogon
Two New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered after a clash with the military in Magallanes, Sorsogon on Wednesday.
The rebels, identified as 33-year-old Judy Torres a.k.a. Ka Rolly, and 19-year-old Jomar Gracilla, were placed under military custody after a 10-minute firefight.
"We heard voices shouting for surrender, I immediately ordered (a ceasefire)," said Capt. Christopher Santander, leader of the troops who encountered the insurgents.
"They were lying face down on the ground with their firearms by their side when they were captured," he added.
The two rebels were taken to the 31st Infantry Battalion headquarters in Barangay Rangas in Juban town.
The military operation was conducted after civilians had reported about the presence of insurgents extorting money from candidates in the area. (Bjorn Beltran/ Philippine Star trainee)
