DOJ OKs tax evasion raps vs Corona

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice found pobable cause to file tax evasion case against ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In a resolution, the DOJ found basis in the complaint filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue that Corona is liable for failing to pay taxes amounting to P120.5 million.

Corona was charged for failing to file income tax returns for the years 2000, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2010.

The BIR filed a tax evasion case against Corona for his alleged incorrect declaration in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN), the same reason he was declared guilty of committing an impeachable offense by the Senate impeachment court last year.

Corona had told the impeachment court that he has undeclared $2.4 million and P80.7 million in various bank accounts.
