Quezon City fire leaves 200 families homeless

MANILA, Philippines - Fire gutted a shanty area in Quezon City on Tuesday morning, leaving at least 200 families homeless and three persons injured.

The fire at a shanty area in Sitio Militar, Barangay Bahay Toro, Project 8 started at around 9:25 a.m.

The blaze reached Task Force Bravo before it was put out by firemen.

Superintendent Jesus Fernandez, Quezon City fire chief, said that at least 100 homes were razed by the fire.

Fernandez said that three people were also reported hurt.

The city fire bureau estimates the fire damage at at least P2.5 million.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
