Bus burning in Ilocos Norte foiled

The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – Authorities foiled an attempt by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels to burn passenger buses in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte the other day.

Chief Inspector Randy Baoit, municipal police chief, said employees of the GMW bus in Barangay Buyon prevented the fire from spreading.

Reports said the armed men arrived in a van and left bottles of gasoline under several buses inside the GMW motorpool.

Baoit said the owners of the bus firm earlier received text messages from alleged rebels demanding revolutionary taxes. – Raymund Catindig, Teddy Molina
