BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines â€“ A suspected gunman in the killing of an executive of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) has been arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), officials said yesterday.

Reonel Martinez, is currently detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, for allegedly killing in 2011 Arlene Fernandez, 56, a budget officer of the NVSU.

Fernandez, also the school’s director for financial services, was shot dead by two suspects while on her way to the university’s administration building.

The NBI said Martinez, who was a former member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU), was a member of a gun-for-hire group based in the province.

The NBI said Martinez, who was found in possession of caliber .45 caliber pistol and a first- class automatic rifle when arrested last March 21, was also charged for illegal possession of firearms and for violation of the election gun ban.
