2 ‘vote buyers’ nabbed in Cavite
CAVITE, Philippines – Two women were arrested yesterday for allegedly soliciting votes for a former mayor of Tanza town here, police said.
PO1 Joel Mendoza of the Tanza police identified the suspects as Marilou Kamikosa, 56, and Leiann Escobar, 26, residents of Barangay Amaya Uno, Tanza town.
Reports said a certain John Ace Pelisardo made a citizen’s arrest of the two women after he was allegedly offered an envelope containing P300 with an election stub stamped with “Poll Workers Training†on it.
Pelisardo turned over the two to the Tanza police which, in turn, is readying a case for violation of Section 261, Article 22 of the Omnibus Election Code against them.
The suspects, however, denied the accusations against them.
Police said there were alleged supporters of former Tanza mayor Raymundo del Rosario, whose camp, however, denied having any knowledge of the alleged vote buying.
