Radioman killed in Zambo attack

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A radio broadcaster was killed in an ambush staged by two motorcycle-riding men shortly before noon yesterday in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.

Mario Vendiola Baylosis, 33, disc jockey and reporter of DXLM Ang Radyo Natin based in Kabasalan, was on his way home in Barangay Goodyear when shot in front of a gasoline station in Barangay Saliyasin.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9), said the suspects fled toward Ipil town.

Baylosis was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to three gunshot wounds in the chest.

According to Baylosis’ colleague, Jerry Kimos, the victim had just come from his regular music entertainment program.

“The victim had no known enemy. He was a good man,” Kimos, manager of DXNC based in Titay town, said.

Authorities recovered from the crime scene three shells believed fired from a .45 caliber pistol.

Huesca said they have yet to determine the motive for the attack although the victim had previously reported a threat to his life.
