Hydropower plant to rise in Mindoro

Juancho Mahusay - The Philippine Star

CALAPAN CITY , Philippines   â€“ The construction of an eight-megawatt mini hydropower plant in Oriental Mindoro is set to start next month in Naujan town, according to an executive of Sta. Clara Power Corp.

“Hopefully we can do it next month,” Sta. Clara Power president Asistio Gonzaga said, adding that the construction will take at least 30 months.

“Commercial operations will start immediately after the testing of the power plant or maybe by mid-2016,” he said.

The plant, which will cost about P1.9 billion, will source its water requirements from the Catwiran River.

Sta. Clara Power currently owns and operates a 1.2-MW mini hydropower plant in Loboc, Bohol, and has other renewable energy projects in the pipeline, including a 9-MW mini hydropower project in Danao, Bohol.
