No foul play in mountaineer's death - police

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said that the autopsy on the body of the mountaineer whose cadaver was found last Saturday on the foothills of Mt. Maculot in Batangas has no indication of foul play.

The PNP crime laboratory post-mortem investigation identified the decomposing remains of a male cadaver recovered near the lakeshore in Cuenca, Batangas as that of mountaineer Victor Joel Ayson who has gone missing since Easter Sunday while scaling Mount Maculot.

Medico-legal examiners said the remains of the 27-year-old victim was already in the advanced state of decomposition.

The forensic examiners also noted a fractured jaw, anterior ribs and pelvis of the victim, including other blunt traumatic injuries of the body consistent with a fall from an elevated position.

The victim was wearing black socks, black pants, and a black T-shirt with markings: “Mind over Mountain”.

His body was found on Saturday near the shore of Taal Lake in Cuenca town just below a very steep slope.

He was last seen on Easter Sunday while buying bottled water from a store at the foothills of Mount Maculot.
