Celso Amo, Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines   â€“ Albay recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the German Technical Cooperation to establish three flood early warning systems as part of an integrated warning system in disaster risk management.

Olaff Neussner, chief of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit, said the low-cost project is now in place in 16 areas in the country, including Ormoc City in Leyte, Sorsogon, Negros Oriental, Oriental Mindoro, Surigao City, Surigao de Sur, and Isabela.

The project, which cost P1.6 million for inland rivers, is funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Department and the German government.

“This project for smaller rivers and smaller flood-prone areas has been successfully tested for some years now in the Philippines,” Neussner said.
