Bus falls off bridge; 1 dead, 38 hurt

ILOILO CITY, Philippines   â€“ A 60-year-old man on his way to his mother’s wake died while 38 others were injured as an Iloilo-bound ro-ro (roll-on, roll-off) bus fell off the Calaugan Bridge in Tibiao, Antique early yesterday morning.

The fatality, Mariano Geriane, was sitting in the middle portion of the Ceres bus with his younger brother, Salvador, when the incident happened at around 5:30 a.m. yesterday. The two were on their way to Guimbal, Iloilo as their mother has died.

Of the 38 injured passengers, only one remained confined in the hospital. The bus was carrying 66 passengers, excluding the driver and conductor.
