Geothermal plant rising in Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines - A geothermal power plant is rising in Naujan town in Oriental Mindoro, Rep. Rodolfo Valencia said yesterday.

He said the green energy project of businessman Jose Leviste Jr. of Constellation Energy Corp. would bring down the cost of electricity in Oriental Mindoro and hasten the transformation of the province as a tourist destination and major food hub, since it is one of the country’s largest rice producers.

Valencia said he recently met with Leviste and his European partners who gave him an update on their green energy plant, which will start operating next year. The plant would initially generate 20 megawatts.
