Zambo village chief wounded in ambush
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A village chairman was wounded in an ambush after attending a local proclamation political rally in Gutalac town, Zamboanga del Norte Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO), identified the victim as Marlon Manisig, 51, chairman of Brgy. Canuto Enerio, Gutalac town. He sustained a bullet wound on his left arm.
Investigation disclosed that Manisig, with some of his village officials, attended the proclamation rally of incumbent and mayoralty candidate Mariano Candelaria, Jr. of the Alliance for Peace and Progress (APP) at Brgy. Loay.
Huesca said after the rally the victim with some of his village official went home on a convoy of motorcycles when suddenly two unidentified gunmen, also on board a motorcycle coming from an opposite direction, stopped and fired at the victim hitting Manisig on his left arm.
The victim was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital and was declared under stable condition after the treatment of his injury.
Police investigators were looking on politics as the possible angle of the shooting ambush incident.
