PNP: Gun ban violators close to 2K
MANILA, Philippines - Authorities have apprehended almost 2,000 violators of the ongoing Commission on Elections gun ban, the Philippine National Police said on Friday.
In its latest count since the poll gun ban started last Jan. 13, the PNP has recorded 1,980 people arrested for illegally carrying firearms, bladed weapons and ammunitions.
The PNP said that among those arrested were 13 soldiers, 23 policemen, 26 government officials, a fireman and 99 security guards.
The PNP also reported that police personnel have confiscated a total of 1,944 various types of high-powered and low-powered firearms.
Authorities also seized from the gun ban violators 102 firearm replicas, 105 grenades, 299 other explosive devices and 17,044 different types of ammunition.
