Taguig cops beef up presence for Holy Week
MANILA, Philippines - Acting on the orders of Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, the Taguig City Police has beefed-up its presence in the city for the long Holy Week break.
“Holy Week is a time of reflection for everyone; it does not matter which denomination of faith you belong to. Maintaining peace and order during this time of solemnity is of utter importance in Taguig, which is a multicultural and highly diverse city,†Cayetano said.
“Unfortunately, criminals do not take holidays, even on Holy Week. It is for this reason that I’ve instructed the Taguig City Police to enforce measures that would pre-empt unscrupulous groups from having their way in Taguig,†she added.
Taguig City Police chief. Sr. Supt. Arthur Asis said he has already ordered his intelligence operatives to identify possible threats to local security with Taguig slowing down for the long holiday break.
“So far, there have been no reports of threats specifically from crime groups or syndicates that may want to penetrate the city to do their bidding,†he said.
Asis added that the current security situation in Taguig City is “manageable†with the assistance of barangay watchmen who serve as force multipliers.
According to Asis, the Taguig Police Station’s 352 police officers by deploying at least four each to the city’s 28 barangays.
“There are many ingress-egress points here. What we need to do is to strengthen the sectors wherein we can deploy our police to. With the help of our tanods, we can seal Taguig City from unwanted persons or criminals,†he said.
Taguig has a population of 720,000 people. It is home to the Bonifacio Global City —Metro Manila’s premiere business hub that also hosts high-end residences, shopping malls, various embassies, a world-class hospital as well as a state-of-the-art science museum.
