.5-M trees to be planted on Cotabato mountain ranges

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines – The city government aims to plant 500,000 seedlings on two mountain ranges here in keeping with its goal of planting one million trees.

The tree-planting drive is part of the city government’s “Tree Growing Festival,” which was launched in June 2011.   

More than 50,000 local volunteers earlier planted close to 300,000 seedlings along the Quezon and Roxas mountain ranges.

Mayor Peter Miguel said at least 90 percent of the planting sites have been prepared.

Miguel said they would need thousands of volunteers to reach their goal.
