8 universities in CAR plan to hike tuition

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Seven universities in Baguio City and one in Abra will raise tuition fees in the next school year.

Ramon Santiago, acting director of the Commission on Human Rights in the Cordillera Administrative Region, said that they will closely monitor the eights schools' compliance of requirements.

Santiago said that the eight schools will raise their tuition fees for the increased salaries of their teachers and for the purchase of more equipment for the students.

The CHED director, meanwhile, clarified that the eight schools must hold dialogues with their students before implementing the tuition fee hike.

"It is in this part of the process where CHED will closely observe as to the proceedings. We hope the demanded increases would be reasonable and that the additional amounts collected would really be spent for the welfare of the students and teachers," said Santiago.
