Teachers, schools division get aid from lawmaker

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines  ---- Public school teachers here received 1, 626 bags containing  assorted teaching kits from the office of Maguindanao First District Rep. Bai Sandra Sema.

The congressional district Sema represents includes all of the 37 barangays in Cotabato City.

Sema also provided the city schools division with a brand new silver Toyota Hi-Ace van during the same turn over rite, held at the Notre Dame Village Elementary School here, in the presence of teachers from across the city and their district supervisors.

The air-conditioned van was received from Sema by Concepcion Balawag, city’s incumbent schools superintendent.

Balawag said the instructional materials Sema donated will improve the efficiency of public school teachers in the city.

“It will help the city’s community of public school teachers,” Balawag said.

She said the van from Sema’s office will also  improve the monitoring of the performance of public school teachers in all of the 37 barangays here.

Sema, who was previously a teacher, said she launched the project to enhance the capabilities of local public school teachers, in support of the national government’s Southern Mindanao peace process.

The government’s peace overtures with Moro communities in Mindanao are partly focused on providing  free and quality education to the children in the south.

Some of Sema’s infrastructure projects were built in areas where there are communities of the Moro National Liberation Front and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to complement the government's effort to address underdevelopment  in the region .
