Bulacan village chief shot dead

MANILA, Philippines - A barangay chairman in Bulacan province was shot dead in his home in Valenzuela City on Monday morning.

Senior Superintendent Roderick Armamento, Valenzuela City police chief, identified the fatality as Ronald Legaspi, chairman of Barangay Libutan in Meycauayan, Bulacan.

Armamento said that based on initial reports, Legaspi was cleaning his vehicle when he was shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the barangay chairman's killing.

The shooting happened even as the police is implementing the Commission on Elections' nationwide gun ban.
