CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Reporter Jun Baldecantos of the tabloid “People’s Tonight†had just come from the school of his four-year-old child in Bacoor City, Cavite and was eating in a nearby store when unidentified men fired at him yesterday morning.
Luckily, Baldecantos, 42, who used to be a columnist and reporter of another tabloid, “Hataw,†survived the attack with three bullet wounds in the chest and thigh. Doctors at the MCI Hospital in Imus City declared him out of danger.
Senior Superintendent Romeo Baleros, deputy provincial director for operations of the Cavite police, said Baldecantos was on his way to his office after dropping by his child’s school when two motorcycle-riding men in black jackets attacked him.
As of press time, Baleros said probers were still gathering information and interviewing witnesses, adding he has formed a special team to determine if the attack on Baldecantos was work-related.
Prior to the shooting, Baldecantos, according to Baleros, had received a death threat but merely ignored it and did not report it to authorities.
Baldecantos reportedly used to work for the camp of former Cavite governor Ayong Maliksi before he joined the camp of Sen. Bong Revilla as a liaison officer.
