P16.5-B school infra project begins today
MANILA, Philippines - The actual construction work for 9,301 classrooms under Phase 1 of the P16.5-billion Department of Education’s public-private partnership for the School Infrastructure Project begins today in the three regions that it covers.
The DepEd kicks off the project with groundbreaking ceremonies at the Pantay National High School in Teresa, Rizal today.
The two consortia that bagged the contracts, the Megawide-Citicore consortium and BF Corp.-Riverbanks Development Corp., started mobilizing their equipment and preliminary construction readiness work last February.
The BF Corp. consortium said it has begun fabricating the steel panels for the 2,157 classrooms to be built in Region 1 (Ilocos).
The Megawide consortium, for its part, said it has trained 69 construction teams for the building of 2,885 classrooms in Region 3 (Central Luzon) and 4,259 classrooms in Region 4-A (Calabarzon).
Phase 2 of the School Infrastructure Project will involve the construction of 10,679 classrooms in 14 regions.
