Davao Oriental folk warned of landslides
MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau yesterday advised residents in Davao Oriental to remain vigilant against landslides as rains will continue to prevail over the province in the next few days.
At least three people died while two others were missing after a landslide struck Mati, Davao Oriental Tuesday noon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental will continue to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with light rains until Saturday.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the easterlies – winds coming from the Pacific Ocean – are expected to bring warm weather over the eastern section of the country in the next 24 hours.
The country will be partly cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly over Aurora province, eastern Visayas, and the Caraga and Davao regions until today, it said.
According PAGASA, the country is currently in a transition period, with the wind system shifting from northeasterly to easterlies.
The easterlies bring hot weather to the country from March to May.
The northeast monsoon – which carries cold wind from Siberia and China – is expected to end by the second week of March.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau said coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.
