Archdiocese of Cebu holding election summit
MANILA, Philippines - Should Cebuanos still vote for candidates belonging to political dynasties?
This is one of the topics that an election summit organized by the Archdiocese of Cebu today intends to tackle.
The event dubbed “Summit on Credible Elections 2013: Addressing the Most Challenging Election Issues†will be held at the Mariners’ Court in Cebu City.
Among the topics that could be taken up during the summit are political dynasties, vote buying, violations of election rules and irregularities, and sectoral agenda.
“(The summit) will endeavor to forge maximum unity in embracing electoral advocacy and in implementing the needed concrete strategies for electoral reforms,†Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma told CBCPNews.
Palma earlier had called for an end to political dynasty in the country.
In a pastoral statement last month, the CBCP threw its support behind moves of the laity to form a people’s initiative that would promote the passage of an anti-political dynasty bill.
