Iloilo woman held over ‘bomb joke’ in P-Noy’s hotel

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Police detained a woman working as secretary of a Korean school in this city after cracking a “bomb joke” at a hotel where President Aquino was staying last Wednesday.

For several hours, police detained a certain Jane after she told the guards of the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center that her friend’s bag had a bomb in it.

“It was supposed to be a joke among them because they have known the security guards for sometime already,” said Senior Superintendent Ruperto Floro, Iloilo police director.

Jane has been staying at the hotel for about a year now. She was with four friends, who are teachers of the Korean school located near the hotel.

A member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) reportedly overheard Jane blurting out the bomb joke.

The PSG then inspected her bag and her companion’s and found nothing, but nonetheless she was brought to the police precinct for investigation.

Police said Jane was released later that night after she was able to convince investigators that she works at a Korean school.
