Sarangani gov tags PNP exec in illegal mining

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines – A police official is reportedly financing an illegal mining operation in the boundary of Kiamba and Maitum towns, Sarangani Gov. Miguel Rene Dominguez said yesterday.

“Among those financing the operation is a police general,” Dominguez said without identifying the police official.

When asked if the police general is assigned in Central Mindanao, Dominguez said, “I think he is assigned in Luzon.”

Dominguez said they are also verifying the involvement of some local personalities in the illegal mining of gold in the area.

Meanwhile, Kiamba Mayor Raul Martinez said he could not stop illegal mining operations in his town because he has “no authority” to do it.

Martinez said the boundary conflict between Kiamba and Maitum should be resolved to determine who has control over the area.
