ILAGAN CITY, Philippines – Police filed murder charges on Friday against four persons in connection with the killing of a village chief in San Pablo, Isabela on the first day of the nationwide election gun ban.

Isabela police chief investigator Superintendent Vicente Valdez said Ivy Rose Soriano, the daughter of the slain village chief, Victor Acoba Soriano, identified the alleged gunman as a certain Manning Taggueg, a resident of Barangay San Vicente.

Ivy Rose said she saw Taggueg as he fled the crime scene.

A certain Marvin Daliri, who acted as a lookout and two John Does tagged by witnesses were included in the charge sheet.

Valdez told The STAR that Taggueg was identified with the Bagong Hukbong Bayan-Alex Boncayao breakaway group of the New People’s Army.

He declined to speculate on the identity of the mastermind.

The victim was said to identified with Vice Mayor Norma Pinsol who is running for mayor against the son of the incumbent Antonio Miro, who is seeking re-election.
