Acosta thanks P-Noy for offer to pay his bail

MANILA, Philippines - General manager Nereus Acosta of the Laguna Lake Development Authority expressed his gratitude yesterday to President Aquino for his readiness to pay his bail after the Sandiganbayan supposedly ordered him and his mother arrested.

The Sandiganbayan’s 5th Division has reportedly ordered the arrest of Acosta and his mother Socorro on perjury charges.

Acosta, presidential adviser for environmental protection, alleged that people behind illegal mining and illegal logging were behind the black propaganda and “political harassment” against him and his mother.

Acosta has asked the Sandiganbayan to be fair in hearing his case, giving assurance that he would follow the rule of law.

Acosta’s legal counsel, lawyer Lodel Parungao, said the Sandiganbayan has not issued a warrant of arrest against his client and that they submitted last Friday an appeal to stop its issuance.
