The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested a barangay chairman and a former member of the New People's Army (NPA) in Quezon province for violating the Commission on Elections' gun ban.

A report by dzMM radio reported that Danilo Tapalla, chairman of Barangay Bayanihan in Dolores town, was arrested based on a complaint by a local businessman.

The report said that Tapalla resisted arrest and even pointed a gun at an arresting policeman, but he was immediately disarmed.

Former rebel Domingo Plaza, meanwhile, was arrested by the police after firing his gun four times in front of a house in Barangay Poblacion.

Seized from the former rebel was a .38 revolver and a fan knife.

The two suspects are currently detained at the Quezon provincial police office and are now facing charges for violation of the election gun ban.
