Power back in Abra after 5-hour outage
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Electricity was fully restored Thursday afternoon after five hours of power outage as the Abra Electric Cooperative paid P16 million in fees to Aboitiz Power Renewables Inc. (APRI).
The cooperative believes that its troubles are caused by plots to unseat its manager.
“Wala kami arrears,†Abreco general manager Loreto Seares Jr. said while appealing to Abrenians for sobriety and calm.
During the power outage Thursday noon, Abra governor Eustaquio Bersamin called for an emergency Provincial Board meeting declaring a “state of emergency†for the five-hour blackout and called six members of the 10-member Abreco board of directors.
Bersamin shelled out P5 million from the province’s calamity fund to pay Abreco’s backlog to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, said Serafin Alzate, Abra’s public information officer.
A power outage was also averted last December 27 after Abreco paid the P4.9 million balance of its monthly dues. Another threat of power cutoff was also averted on January 3.
The first black-out was a 27-hour power outage on December 10.
Abreco is servicing at least 47,000 Abrenios in all 27 towns of Abra. - Artemio Dumlao
