Troops kill 3 NPA guerillas in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Troops killed three members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in an encounter in Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday afternoon.
Three soldiers were also wounded in the ensuing gunbatlle, said Col. Rodrigo Gregorio, civil military affairs chief and Spokesperson of the Armed Forces' Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom).
Gregorio said the elements of the 14th Scout Ranger Company (SRC) were on a reconnaissance mission at the vicinity of Barangay Mati, Tigbao town when they chanced upon an undetermined number of NPA guerillas.
He said the firefight broke out at around 2:45 p.m.
Gregorio said the soldiers recovered three high-powered firearms at the site of the encounter.
Pursuit operations were launched against the rebels who escaped after the encounter. - Roel Pareño
