Phl opens consulate in Brno, Czech Republic
The event was attended by Philippine Ambassador to the Czech Republic Evelyn D. Austria-Garcia, Moravia Governor Michal Hašek, Brno City officials, Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic Deputy Director-General Dagmar Kuchotva, Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General Daniel Koštoval and Director General Ivan Jukl, and Consuls General, a.h. from Austria, Angola, and Russia, and other invited guests.
In thanking the Governor of Moravia and the other guests for attending the official opening of the Consulate, Philippine Honorary Consul General Bretislav Skácel said that having the Consulate in Brno is a good indication of the growing trade and cultural relations between the Philippines and the Czech Republic.
In her remarks, Austria-Garcia expressed appreciation for the presence of the Governor and other officials of Moravia and also thanked Honorary Consul Skácel for accepting the position. She assured Honorary Consul Skácel of the Embassy’s support in the promotion of Philippine trade, investment, and tourism, especially in the Moravian region.
Furthermore, Austria-Garcia emphasized that the opening of the Consulate comes at an auspicious time as the Philippines and the Czech Republic celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
She enumerated the celebratory activities lined up for this year, which includes the re-launching of the Philippine-Czech Business Council in February.The Ambassador shared the good news that the International Monetary Fund and World Bank have projected continued growth for the Philippines in the coming years, and expressed hope that the Consulate would encourage not only enhanced commercial ties, but also strong people-to-people contact.
The opening of the Consulate started with the blessing of its office premises, followed by a simple reception where guests were able to sample Tanduay and Mango Rum from the Philippines.
