Four farmers missing after Maguindanao flashflood

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines - The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao dispatched Thursday a rescue team to search for four farmers reportedly swept away by rampaging flashflood that struck a village in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

Loreto Rirao, director of the RDRRMC-ARMM, said the four farmers were reported missing after a flashflood hit their farms in a remote district in Mamasapano.

“The team sent to verify the report about the missing Mamasapano residents is now being verified. We still have no exact identities of these four people,” Rirao told reporters.

The perennially flooded Mamasapano town is located at the second district of Maguindanao, traversed by rivers that spring from the forested hinterlands of Sultan Kudarat.

Rirao said local Army units have also been helping in the search and rescue operations.

“Let’s give the team that was sent to the area enough time to report their findings,” Rirao said.
