Broadcaster nabbed for gun ban violation in Dapitan City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A radio broadcaster was arrested for violation of the election gun ban in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, according to police Thursday.

Sr. Supt. James Mejia, police provincial commander, said Roy Acaylar Villar, 38, a disc jockey of a local FM station DXFL Love Radio, also failed to present registration documents for his firearm .

The police investigation disclosed that elements of the Zamboanga del Norte Police Public Safety Company led by Police Inspector Roldan Molate were manning a  checkpoint at Barangay Polo, Dapitan City when they intercepted Villar Tuesday morning.

Villar, a resident of Barangay Polo, was reportedly on his way home from work, when he was chanced upon in the checkpoint.

The police operatives seized from Villar a colt .45 pistol with one extended magazine loaded with nine ammunition.

Villar failed to present legal document to carry and posses the confiscated firearm neither presented exemption and permit to carry firearm from the Commission on Election.
