NPD supports proposed Caloocan reward system

MANILA, Philippines - A police official on Monday welcomed the proposed reward system to hasten the arrest of suspected criminals in Caloocan City.
Chief Superintendent Joel Ma. Alvarez, Northern Police District (NPD) chief, said the proposal will help in the early solution of criminal cases in Caloocan.
Alvarez added that the Philippine National Police (PNP) does not have enough money to sustain its reward system, thus the proposal would make it easier for authorities to track down criminals and get civilian cooperation.
Caloocan City councilor Ricojudge Janvier Echiverri submitted a proposed ordinance pushing the reward system after Stephanie Nicole Ella, 7, was killed by a stray bullet while watching fireworks in front of their house in Barangay 185, Malaria, Caloocan City on New Year's Eve.
The councilor has yet to set the amount for the reward system.
The city government has offered a P200,000 reward for information that could lead o the arrest of the stray bullet victim's killer.
President Aquino has also offered a P2-million reward fir the arrest of the shooter.
