MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Health reported on Thursday a total of 789 firework-related injuries from the New Year celebrations in the country.
Asst. Health Secretary Eric Tayag said 765 people were injured by fireworks, 22 were hit by stray bullets and two suffered from firework ingestion.
The total number is 21 percent lower than the 1,003 firework-related injuries recorded a year ago.
The DOH said those who have been injured by firecrackers should immediately seek medical help to prevent tetanus, a disease that can be fatal if left without treatment.
