5 inmates, jail guard hurt in riot

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – At least five inmates and a jail guard were injured when a riot erupted at the Sorsogon provincial jail Tuesday night, police said.

Based on inmates’ accounts, the riot started when Bahala na Gang leader Hilton Fortes stabbed Sputnik gang head Michael Mojinia with an improvised bladed weapon after a verbal tussle.

Jail guard Rodolfo Soriano responded, but was stabbed by Mojinia. The inmates later turned violent, forcing the guards to fire shots, hitting at least three in the feet.
