Neighborly woman, son find themselves hacked

CALASIAO, Pangasinan, Philippines – An unsuspecting woman and her teenage son who allowed a man to use their water pump on New Year’s Eve found themselves attacked instead of being thanked for their neighborliness.

Clarita Ventenilla, 63, and her son Joey, 13, were preparing their media noche (New Year Eve’s fare) in their home in Barangay Banaog here when suspect Loreto Manandeg, 41, sought permission to use their water pump.

But upon entering the Ventenillas’ home, Manandeg hacked mother and son, rendering them unconscious. The suspect then took the teenager’s mountain bike and fled. He was later arrested. 

The Ventenillas are still confined at the Trauma Specialist Group Hospital in Dagupan City due to multiple hack wounds. Charges of robbery and double frustrated murder are being readied against Manandeg.
