Pangasinan barangay chief gunned down

MANGATAREM, Pangasinan, Philippines – A barangay chairman here was shot dead in a carnival in the town plaza on Christmas Eve, police said.

Probers are eyeing personal or work-related angle or a pending case on alleged possession of illegal drugs in the killing of Ricardo Torres, chairman of Barangay Quezon, said Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador, acting provincial police director. 

Meanwhile, a former barangay chairman in Pozorrubio town, Teofilo Tempra, 56, was shot dead before dawn yesterday while he was having coffee in a public market where he worked as guard after heading Barangay Laoac.
