Blackout-hit Abra running out of kerosene, candles
BANGUED, Abra, Philippines – The total blackout that has swept Abra since Aboitiz Corp. cut off supply two days ago due to P4.9-million unpaid bills of the Abra Electric Cooperative (Abreco) turned worse yesterday as residents scrambled for candles and kerosene that have become scarce.
Dick Bersamira, leader of Abra for Truth Movement, said gasoline stations were running out of kerosene while many stores have candle stocks declining.
He said some residents had fired their guns in the air to express their anger over the situation.
Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin and Abra Rep. Joy Bernos and other officials were in a closed-door meeting as of press time yesterday to discuss steps on how to restore power in the province. – Teddy Molina, Artemio Dumlao
