Fisherman dies while dynamite fishing in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A fisherman was killed while his companion was seriously injured in a dynamite explosion while in waters off a coastal village, police said Tuesday.

Senior Inspector Noel Lozano, Police Station 3 commander based in Barangay Sangali, identified the fatality as Mabini Jalilon, 43, while his wounded companion was identified as Sonny Boy Pailuddin.

The survivor told police that they were on fishing venture in waters off Barangay Sangali when the explosion happened.

Pailuddin said that Jalilon was killed by a lighted dynamite that prematurely exploded.

The injured victim was brought to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for treatment while the remains of Jalilon were properly turned over to his surviving family.
