MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked parts of the Visayas yesterday but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, state seismologists said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the tremor at around 8:43 a.m. with its epicenter traced at 138 kilometers northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
The quake was felt at intensity 5 in Mercedes, Eastern Samar; intensity 4 in Tacloban City, Borongan City and General MacArthur, Eastern Samar; intensity 3 in Catbalogan City; Jaro, Dulag and Tolosa in Leyte; and intensity 2 in Capoocan and Dagami in Leyte.
Phivolcs warned of aftershocks.
