Kalinga gets fund to boost agri

The Philippine Star

TABUK CITY, Kalinga -  Kalinga province has received a new anti-poverty aid, which would be mainly used for additional farm interventions.

The P23.55- million is released under the National Anti-Poverty Program of the National Anti-Poverty Council.

The appropriation was hastened  following the Agriculture secretary Proceso Alcala, who in one of his visits to the province, saw the need for more farming facilities to boost Kalinga’s agricultural-based economy.

The aid will be distributed to four towns and Tabuk City for the construction of additional farm-to-market roads, said Teresa Desay of the Office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG).

The fund is allocated for FMR projects in Pinukpuk – P4.5M, Pasil – P4M, Tinglayan – P4M, Lubuagan – P3M and Tabuk City – P8.050M.

Alcala has said that one of the measures to effectively reduce the poverty rate in Kalinga is to increase income among farmers.

By opening access of farm products to markets, farmers will be encouraged to improve production and thereby increasing their profits, he said.

The projects will begin next year. - Artemio Dumlao
