CAMP FLORENDO, La Union, Philippines  – The barangay captain of Cabangtalan in Sinait, Ilocos Sur was arrested yesterday for possession of some P500,000 worth of illegally cut logs.

Chief Superintendent Franklin Bucayu, Region 1 police director, told The STAR criminal charges would be filed against Arnulfo Ineda, 45.

Senior Superintendent Noel Amoyen, Ilocos Sur police director, said the hot logs – 160 pieces mahogany, 30 pieces molave and 30 pieces gemilina – were found at Ineda’s residence by Ilocos Sur policemen.

Ineda claimed some of the logs would be used for the construction of a barangay hall.

Amoyen said the confiscation of the hot logs was made through a tip from the police’s barangay information network.
