Quarrying continues in Sariaya

Michelle Zoleta - The Philippine Star

LUCENA CITY, Philippines – The Tanggol Kalikasan, an environment advocacy group, has expressed disappointment and slammed the local government, particularly the Provincial Mining and Regulatory Board and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, for the continued illegal quarrying and black sand mining in rivers and coastal villages in Sariaya, Quezon.

Last Monday, the group witnessed quarrying along the shore of Sitios Quiling and Bignay 2 which they blamed for flooding during heavy rainfall.

The group saw three motorboats loaded with black sand that was brought to a stockpile and transferred to a truck.
