Marikina jail warden sacked over weekend riot
MANILA, Philippines - The Marikina City jail warden has been relieved over the riot at the prison facility last Sunday afternoon where an inmate was killed and two more were injured.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-National Capital Region relieved Senior Inspector Nicanor Abraham over the incident.
The BJMP installed Senior Inspector Gregorio Acacio as officer in charge of the jail facility.
Last November 18, prisoners at the Marikina City jail located at the 5th floor of the Marikina Justice Hall building staged a protest action against the stringent measures on their visitors.
The inmates claimed that jail guards require visitors to undress before being let in the facility.
During the protest, the prisoners reportedly got unruly prompting a jail guard to shoot rubber bullets at them.
However, an inmate identified as Roel Diaz was rushed to a nearby hospital but died due to gunshot wounds.
Two other inmates, Jayson Malicdin and John Cariño were wounded.
Authorities are looking into the incident. Dennis Carcamo
